BEER FEST 2022
We raised an amazing amount of money for the Last Kiss Foundation - nearly £6000!
Thank you to all who came to the Beer Fest and donated, and to those who came and supported us on our Beer Presentation night.
Here's to 2023's Beer Festival - more details coming soon!
7th Annual Charity Beer Festival
Our charity for the 7th Annual Charity Beer Festival this year was a fundraiser for a community defibrilator, installed outside the pub in a red telephone box, in honour of Phil Moores. We raised £5572.11, which not only paid for the installation of the defibrillator, but also has gone towards the upkeep, and some training for any locals who wish to get their Emergency First Aid.
Golden Vanity Art Auction 2019
We had a fantastic weekend raising money for the Golden Vanity, culminating in the Art Auction where we raised over £1900 - £100 of which has been kindly donated to our defibrillator fund! Above is the winner of the main raffle prize - a trip on Golden Vanity!
On 26th January 2018, we had our Beer Presentation Night for the 2017 Beer Festival. We announced and presented the winners with their certificates, and of course, gave PATH a cheque for over £2000 - raised by you!
PUNTERS at a Brixham pub have raised almost £1,000 for a good cause thanks to a charity auction.
Customers and staff at the Queen’s Arms in Staion Hill raised the cash for the Golden Vanity trust which runs the Galmpton-built training sailing vessel of the same name and helps young people boost their self esteem through sailing. Publican Chris Simmonds said: “We raised this money with a charity auction organised by Roger Kyle, selling donated paintings from local artists and a good BBQ all supported by local band Three Bags Full.”
He added: “Our next big event is our charity beer festival in December.”
BRIXHAM publican Chris Simmonds is gearing up for a series of big fundraiser nights.
The owner of the Queen’s Arms in Station Hill has been raising hundreds of pounds for local good causes since taking over the boozer 18 months ago.
His latest charity event saw £235.10 raised for Tommy’s a charity which funds research into stillbirths and premature births and provides help to parents.
Chris handed over a cheque to Laura Eydmann Fudge who has almost reached her target of raising £2,500 for the charity after taking part in the London marathon.
He said: “All the money was raised here at the pub. Laura is one of my locals and she supports a fantastic charity.”
He also held a big jam in May for The Golden Vanity Trust.
He added: “Our biggie has to be our charity beer fest in December with live entertainment all weekend.”
Meanwhile the Queen’s Arms will hold a Hunter’s Award Winning Ales to celebrate the Ipplepen brewery’s win at the recent beer fest at Tuckers Maltings in Newton Abbot.
A BRIXHAM publican has vowed to run even more charity events after his daughter’s fundraising day proved a brilliant success.
Chris Simmonds, who took over the Queen’s Arms in Station Hill last November, is already planning other charity events in his ‘small back street boozer’ and help good causes.
It comes after his daughters Emma, 13, and Sophie, seven, and Emma’s school friends Bronte Price and Jade Nation organised a fundraising day in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
The girls managed to raise more than £500 thanks to their cake sale, sweeties in a jar, name the teddy and raffle.
Mr Simmonds said the girls chose the hospital because Bronte’s brother has a hole in his heart and Mr Simmonds’ sister spent many months in Great Ormond Street as a baby where she was only given weeks to live. She is now 32.
He said: “It was a brilliant day. The girls did very well. It definitely drew in the crowds. We had a steady stream of people come through doors during the day.
“We had three local bands play in the afternoon and the evening. We lit the barbecue. It was a good day.”
Mr Simmonds took over the running of the freehouse last year and has worked hard to turn its fortunes round.
He said the pub had a bad reputation in the past but he wants to turn it back into a successful community pub serving a selection of West Country ales.
He said: “The pub has undergone a bit of a rebirth. We’ve got live music every Saturday. We’ll definitely do some more charity events.”
The pub is currently taking part in the CAMRA Community Pub Month campaign.

A BRIXHAM pub is to hold a special charity night to hand over £700 to good causes.
Chris Simmonds, landlord of the Queen’s Arm in Station Hill, will welcome representatives from Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Golden Vanity Trust to hand over money raised by his daughters Emma and Sophie earlier this year.
He said: “I’ve invited Bob Curtis to receive the money on behalf of Great Ormond Street.
“My daughters and their friend organised a charity day for the hospital in March and raised £567.
“I organised a pig race day earlier this year and we raised £127 for charity”.
The cash giving day will take place on September 19 but 10 days later, Chris will organise a ‘battle of the beers’ for ale lovers to try out some of the region’s best award-winning brews.
St Austell’s Smugglers Ale, which won gold overall in the recent Newton Abbot beer festival, will be up for tasting along [with] Golden Sands from Teignworthy which also won gold in its class and Hunter’s Blackjack which won silver in the Peterborough beer festival.
The ale-tasting session will take place in the pub on September 29.
Now here’s an unusual fundraiser – pig racing provide fun for the whole family. Compered by the talented Ady Byng with some favourite Wurzel songs thrown in, you get so excited watching cute, cuddly pigs grunting and wiggling at break-neck speed as they snail towards the finishing line.
The Queens Arms raised £127 for the Golden Vanity Trust in early 2012 – and threw in complementary pork pies afterwards. More spectacular races are planned for the future.
A traditional back street corner pub with excellent beers, pleasant staff, nice meals, good music, weekday activities, friendly company, great community spirit. Come and sample some award winning cask ales and real cider. Enjoy a Saturday night band. You’ll love it.
